So often I am asked the same question about life on the Outer Banks: What do you guys do in the off season? Is there anything going on there once the tourists leave? YES! 100% yes! "Local Summer" is in full swing and I love every second of it, especially when the weather has been as gorgeous as it is this week!
It probably won't come as a surprise to anyone that my favorite activities are usually kid friendly, but there are so many options for this Fall here on the Outer Banks!
Festivals Supporting Local Elementary Schools
October 29th- First Flight Elementary School - Trick or Treat through the amazingly decorated hallways, face painting, cake walk, games and lots of yummy food. Plus, raffles and a silent auction with amazing local items! Admission is $2 and a non-perishable item.
November 5th- Kitty Hawk Elementary School Carnival - Amazing food, tons of games, face-painting, bounce houses, raffles, auctions, a 5k and fun-run. Admission is free and you can purchase tickets for all of the games and such at the door. One of my favorite things about this event is that the Southern Shores Police Department is there and you can create a child safety kit and register it right then and there.
*While we're chatting about local schools, grab tickets to a middle or high school football or soccer game and support our local athletes who are putting in countless hours of practice! Go First Flight!
Local Church Activities
October 28th- Duck UMC - Pizza and Pumpkins! Decorate a pumpkin, enjoy some delicious pizza, face painting and prayer with the amazing church staff! This event is from 3pm-5pm.
PS- I love that this event is earlier evening so you still can have your Friday date night or... if you're like me, put your sweatpants on early and catch a movie with your husband on the couch! :)
October 29th - Liberty Christian Fellowship - Trunk or Treat! Such a great family event and a safe way to trick or treat with your little ones! They will have a bounce house, cake wake, a chili cook off and costume contest!
October 30th- Kitty Hawk United Methodist- Worship and Fall Festival! Beginning at 11am for worship and followed by the Fall Festival at 12:15 with yummy food, friends, photo booth and family fun!
Pumpkin Picking with Local Farms
Starting with this weekend, if you haven't made it to one of the beautiful local farms yet, it's time to make it a priority! Get your pumpkins, stuff a scare crow, eat a caramel apple and drink cider! Our two favorite spots are the Grandy Greenhouse and Farmers Market and Island Farm in Manteo! Both locations still have awesome Fall activities going on now. We stopped by the Grandy Greenhouse this past Sunday and seriously, for $7 you get a hayride to the pumpkin patch, a pumpkin and frozen yogurt!
Not to mention, it's the perfect time of year for a beach bonfire (get your permit!) and host your own backyard oyster roast!
Since I have an October birthday I often had a Fall themed birthday party growing up and so going to a pumpkin patch has always been high on my priority list each Fall! Check out this throwback from one of Joey's first times at the pumpkin patch! Where did my little baby boy go?!
Our annual pumpkin patch trip is my favorite fall tradition! Of course, this year my children were both totally crazy and made trying to get one simple good picture the BIGGEST chore ever! Sorry about your luck, kiddos! Photographer mom, you would think they would be used to it by now! ;)
I never want to miss one single Fall activity so I would love to hear what your favorites are! Post your favorites in the comments!
